In Hearts Wake frontman and obvious top bloke Jake Taylor has come to the defence of his fans, arching up to a security guard at Vans Warped Tour in the process. Soon after, Taylor took to the band’s Facebook to share his thoughts in just what the hell went down.
Footage of the incident shows Taylor spotting something going down in the pit mid-song, and clearly doesn’t agree with it. Soon after, the vocalist abandons his duties, directing his next on-stage banter directly to a security guard.
“What the fuck are you doing to this guy? He does not need a head brace,” Taylor can be heard shouting. Any response from the guard isn’t picked up but it’s clearly unsatisfactory, “Get the fuck off him” Taylor continues, “He can’t breathe, bro, let him breathe. He’s not a UFC fighter.”
By this stage, Taylor is at the barrier apparently assisting the fan who seems to be out of the woods.
Taking to Facebook, Taylor accepted that “99.9%” of security guards are straight up”, but in San Antonio this weekend, he witnessed the “0.01%…restrain and choke a fan in the crowd for ‘moving towards the barrier.”
“His head was literally turning blue and all we could read on his lips were ‘I can’t breathe’. It was completely unnecessary, we did our best to intervene, pulling on his arm to try allow air in whilst every other guard just stood back,” continues the post.
“If you’re a security guard reading this you need to understand that this is a metal show, not a UFC death match. And if you’re in the mosh enjoy yourself and be respectful but you also need to be aware of the consequences – which shouldn’t be the possibility of being put into submission to the point of unconsciousness. Please take care and look out for one another. If anyone else has any videos or photos please let us know so we can help find justice.”
It seems a little like some of the local security for Vans Warped Tour might get a little too hyped up on the action. Before he became the most hated person ever, The Story So Far’s Parker Cannon found himself in a similar situation to Taylor back in 2014, with our very own Tonight Alive’s Jenna McDougall raging at an overzealous seccy last year.
