The Australian music industry has awakened to the sad news that Sydney DJ Ajax was struck and killed by a truck in Melbourne early today. Throughout the morning, tributes have been flooding in from those who knew the DJ personally, had worked with him or were associated with him.
Ajax has been described by his peers as an immeasurable talent with an unrivalled skill set and body of work, as well as being a man of outstanding character. “One of the best guys I ever knew,” wrote Children Collide, with A-Trak tweeting that Adrian was “a warm and generous dude, a real leader.”. Boys Noize tweeted his condolences, remembering “an outstanding DJ” with “amazing skills”, while Brodinski expressed his sadness at losing “one of the best DJ (sic) on earth”.
A well-respected member of the Australian music community, Ajax helped shape and democratise the Australian dance music scene, first with his Bang Gang Deejays crew before moving on to form Sweat It Out, a management company and record label that helped launch the likes of What So Not, Oh Snap!, Yolanda Be Cool, Parachute Youth and Caseno. His club sets, remixes and mixtapes were international renowned, helping him score 3D’s World DJ of the year 3 times.
RIP to Ajax, my thoughts are with all the Australian homies, I can’t believe this. Such a warm and generous dude, a real leader.
