At a trying time in the rich history of Sydney’s nightlife where struggles against the NSW government’s lockout laws see venues battle to stay open; it might just be the case that inflatable nightclubs are the solution.
A Swiss architectural studio by the name of Bureau A has constructed the first inflatable nightclub. It’s called ‘Shelter,’ it was built for the Federation of Swiss Architects annual party, and it pretty much looks like a jumping castle for adults.
The structure is made entirely out of PVC membrane; comes with a bar, dancefloor and DJ booth as well as heaps of furniture – and is completely and easily portable.
Bureau A have described it as a “mysterious black vessel in a highly engendered concrete vault,” reports Dezeen Magazine. The structure was designed to be used “For one night, the black hole of a neat and well-organised society is revealed as a potential for distortion, a potential of let-go and provoke, with a slight smile, the unsaid and the sweat”.
