Jack Black apparently “begged” Meat Loaf to play his father in the 2006 fantasy comedy film, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. Black’s efforts paid off and Meat Loaf appeared in the film as Bud Black, alongside Black, his Tenacious D pal, Kyle Gass, and Dave Grohl as Satan.
Meat Loaf passed away last week at the age of 74. Black has paid tribute to the ‘I’d Do Anything for Love’ singer on Instagram.
“I think I was 9 years old when my big sister took me to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” wrote Black. “Meat Loaf rocked the hell out of that movie. 25 years later I begged him to play my father in my band’s movie The Pick Of Destiny and by god he rocked the hell out of that one too. Thank you Meat for rocking so hard!!! Much love to his friends and family. Meat Loaf Rest In Peace.”
Meat Loaf sings guest vocals on the track ‘Kickapoo’ from the official The Pick of Destiny soundtrack. The late Ronnie James Dio also appears on the song.
In addition to The Pick of Destiny, Meat Loaf had roles in films such as the aforementioned The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), Wayne’s World (1992), Spice World (1997) and Fight Club (1999).
