Jay-Z’s multi-million dollar deal with Samsung has raised even more eyebrows this week after a closer look at the smartphone application raised some serious privacy concerns. For one reason or another, the Magna Carta app, which gives fans the opportunity to hear the album first, requests deep access into your phone, including the ability to, “read phone status and identity.”
When most people simply click there way through the small print that comes with apps these days, rapper Killer Mike paid close attention, screen shooting the T&C’s before uploading the image to Twitter (below). It appears that Samsung want permission to change/delete items on your USB storage, prevent your phone from going into sleep mode and track your location via GPS.
The forward-thinking partnership between technology and artist previously rubbed a lot of people the wrong way when it was revealed Samsung had purchased 1 million units of Hov’s new album Magna Carta…Holy Grail. Seeing as they paid $5 per album, it earned the legendary rapper a cool $5 million in one day and threatened the integrity of music charts all over the world.
Magna Carta…Holy Grail is out in Australia Monday, 8th July. Released everywhere else tomorrow.
