John Legend Just Became The Youngest Person Ever To Achieve EGOT Status

Huge news for John Legend, as today, he finally managed to win an Emmy award thereby giving him an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony – otherwise known as the illustrious ‘EGOT’ which is often considered hitting the pinnacle of success within the entertainment industry.

The Creative Emmy Awards were held this week, and Legend managed to snag the award for ‘Outstanding Variety Special (Live)’ for his production role on Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert.

This makes him the 13th person to ever win at least one of each of the four aforementioned awards, but he’s broken two records too. At 39, he is the youngest person to ever do so and he is also the first black man to do it as well. With the just passed award ceremony, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice – who also worked on Jesus Christ Superstar as composer and lyricist – also achieved their EGOT.

Legend won an Oscar for ‘Best Original Song’ in 2015, a Tony for his role as co-producer on 2017’s Jitney and has a massive 10 Grammys to his name.

Legend’s last Aussie tour was all the way back in 2014, so let’s hope now he’s achieved his EGOT he’ll come back here soon.
