John Safran To Star In New King Gizzard Music Video

Finally. Melbourne’s King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have teamed up with John Safran on the music video for DJ Shadow’s remix of ‘Black Hot Soup’.

King Gizzard will release their first official remix album, Butterfly 3001, on Friday, 21st January. The full-length reboot of Gizzard’s 2021 album, Butterfly 3000, features remixes from The Flaming Lips, DāM-FunK, Confidence Man and many more.

So far we’ve heard a dub version of ‘Shanghai’ handled by dub guru The Scientist and Peaches’ take on ‘Butterfly 3000’ (retitled ‘Neu Butterfly 3000’). DJ Shadow’s “My Own Reality” re-write of the album track, ‘Black Hot Soup’, will be the next single and a music video is coming this Friday, 7th January.

The clip is produced and directed by PHC films, who handled previous Gizz videos ‘Honey’, ‘Some Of Us’, ‘Intrasport’ and ‘Yours’, plus clips for Amyl & the Sniffers, Big Yawn and The Murlocs. The clip stars journalist, author and television personality John Safran.

In an Instagram post, PHC Films described the video as “pure filth.” It’ll premiere at 11pm AEST this Friday, 7th January, which makes for a 7am premiere in New York City and midday in London.

Butterfly 3001 features a total of 21 tracks. In addition to those already mentioned, there’ll be remixes by Deaton Chris Anthony, Yu Su, Donato Dozzy, VRIL, Ciel, ZANDOLI II, Geneva Jacuzzi, Héctor Oaks, Bullant, Fred P, Terry Tracksuit, Hieroglyphic Being, Mall Grab, Peaking Lights, and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith.
