Jonny Greenwood Brainstorming New Radiohead Songs With Thom Yorke

Jonny Greenwood says he’s begun brainstorming for new Radiohead material, emailing ideas for songs to the band’s frontman, Thom Yorke. The news comes a week after the guitarist confirmed that the band would reconvene this September to begin work on what will be their ninth album.

“I was emailing stuff to Thom last night, actually,” Greenwood told The Sunday Times (via Consequence of Sound). “But it’s not the same, is it?” Greenwood cautioned. “You don’t see [Yorke] tutting.” He also confirmed there’s been no talk of a release timeframe for the record.

“No! Release? No, no idea. No,” he stated, adding, “Our plan is to start making music soon. We’ve just got to get the inertia back.” Back in April, the guitarist told Nashville Cream that the UK indie veterans and repeated boundary-pushers are and always have been “a slow-moving animal.”

In the same interview, Greenwood stated that the band would be “meeting up at the end of the summer, and we’ll make a plan” as to their next move. Last week, he offered Mary Anne Hobbes‘ BBC 6 show the first concrete timeframe for when the band would get together, saying, “We’re going to start up in September. Playing, rehearsing and recording and see how it’s sounding.”
