Julian Assange Calls M.I.A. ‘The World’s Finest Megaphone For Truth’

British rapper M.I.A. and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange‘s mutual appreciation fest is set to continue, with Assange describing the Matangi performer as “the world’s finest megaphone for the truth” in a new interview.

The 42-year-old spokesman for WikiLeaks has shown plenty of support for the singer in the past, opening her New York City show earlier this month via Skype, and helping her to promote her Vicki Leekx mixtape in 2010.

Now, when asked by NME to describe the performer, he responded: “She’s the world’s loudest and finest rapping and dancing megaphone for the truth.” And the feels go both ways, with M.I.A., real name Mathangi Arulpragasam, saying that Assange is “one of the smartest people I know.”

Speaking on his confinement to London’s Ecuadorian Embassy to avoid extradition to Sweden where he faces allegations of sexual assault, she said, “That’s kind of how they get you these days. It’s your character. They don’t actually assassinate you like they used to in the ’70s. It’s not necessary these days.”

M.I.A. has just released her fourth full-length studio album, Matangi, while fighting a $1.5 million lawsuit from the National Football League after she flipped the bird during her 2012 Super Bowl halftime performance.
