Lauryn Hill, St. Vincent & More Added To Vivid LIVE 2014 Lineup

Sydney Opera House today announced the next line-up of artists who will join Pixies, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and The Presets, for Vivid LIVE 2014, as part of Vivid Sydney, the 18 day festival of light, music and ideas. Newly announced acts include Lauryn Hill, St. Vincent, James Vincent McMorrow, Anna Calvi and Kate Miller-Heidke.

As part of her long awaited headlining Australian debut, hip-hop luminary Ms. Lauryn Hill will be revisiting a game-changing songbook as a new lineup fixture for Vivid LIVE. Nearly two decades since her breakthrough with The Fugees and her first and only solo release, the 20-million-plus-selling The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, the hip-hop queen will bring her defiant artistic vision and fiercely intelligent social commentary to the Sydney Opera House this year.

Returning to Sydney as her spectacular and chameleonic self, New York-based songwriter and guitarist Annie Clark brings her fascinating stage persona St. Vincent to the Vivid LIVE stage, in support of her critically acclaimed self-titled fourth album.

Armed with a sky-high falsetto, Irish troubadour James Vincent McMorrow will present the immersive light-inspired companion performance to his critically acclaimed record, 2013’s symphonic folk-electronic masterpiece Post Tropical.

Praised by Brian Eno as “the biggest thing since Patti Smith”, guitar virtuoso Anna Calvi will intoxicate with her pop-noir aesthetic, with her Mercury Prize-nominated debut and last year’s critically acclaimed LP, One Breath. While, classically trained opera-turned-pop explorer Kate Miller-Heidke will return to the opera stage following this year’s release of O Vertigo!

Stones Throw signee Jonti will pay tribute to The Avalanches’ seminal record Since I Left You, while this year’s legendary Studio Parties will be curated by Australia’s taste-making record labels and promoters Astral People, Siberia Records, R.I.P Society and Future Classic, while Goodgod Small Club will present a showboating, intercontinental revue led by cult South African wailer Penny Penny and his full seven-piece band.

Tickets on sale to the general public 9am, Monday 31 March. See the Vivid LIVE website for dates and ticket information.

UPDATE 8:36am 26/03/14: Sydney Opera House today announced psych-folk six-piece Midlake will perform on the opening night of Vivid LIVE 2014, Friday, 23rd May. More details via the official Vivid website. While in the country Midlake will also play one extra show at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel.
