Nick Knox, drummer of legendary psychobilly band the Cramps, has passed away at the age of 60.

Tributes have begun flowing in on social media for the beatman, real name Nicholas Stephanoff, who served behind the kit for the NYC outfit between 1977 and 1991.

“Nick Knox Coolest of the cool. R.I.P. Glad to have played to your boss Beat. Meet you on the mystery plane,” tweeted Knox’s former Cramps bandmate, Kid Congo Powers.

While fellow Cramp Miriam Linna wrote a lengthy obituary, sharing some of her fondest memories of “Nicky”, which you can read in full below.

“I thank God that Nicky was a friend of mine,” she said. “He was one of the kindest, funniest, most amazing human beings ever and I was very lucky to have been in his orbit.”

Knox appeared on the Cramps’ first four studio albums, including 1980’s Songs The Lord Taught Us and 1986’s A Date With Elvis, which was the iconic band’s most commercially successful release to date.
