Liam Gallagher’s Beady Eye “Are No Longer”

Queue the sarcastic ‘Oasis-lite’ comments ’cause Liam Gallagher’s band Beady Eye have shut up shop. The news came straight from the top, with Gallagher himself tweeting yesterday afternoon (AEST) that Beady Eye have broken up.

“Beady Eye are no longer,” wrote Gallagher. “Thanks for all your support.” Former Oasis bassist and now-former Beady Eye guitarist Andy Bell also thanked BE fans for their support via Twitter, but did no more to elaborate on why Beady Eye have called it quits.

“Thanks to all the Beady Eye fans. I had a blast,” tweeted Bell. “See you on the other side.” For anyone wondering if the other side means a possible Oasis reunion, with the defunct Britpop group’s sophomore album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? turning 20 next year, we don’t advise getting your hopes up JUST yet.

Liam’s big bro Noel Gallagher, undoubtedly a key element in an Oasis reunion, has just announced a new record with his High Flying Birds outfit. The older Gallagher recently put the kibosh on any reunion rumours, despite the siblings no longer feuding, when speaking with MTV in October. “I’m fucking looking forward to spoiling everybody’s party next year. We won’t be doing it,” Noel told MTV. We’ll just keep our fingers crossed through 2015 anyway, just in case Noel’s telling porkies.

Beady Eye’s final year saw the band put in a typically snide performance at Big Day Out 2014. They also cancelled both of their Coachella 2014 slots, for “reasons beyond our control”. Beady Eye also split with manager Scott Rodger later that same month. NME reported BE and Rodgers parted on good terms after their contract expired.

Beady Eye leaves behind two studio albums, 2011s Different Gear, Still Speeding, and last year’s BE. Liam Gallagher formed Beady Eye in the wake of Oasis’s breakup in 2009. Along with Gallagher and Bell, BE also featured former Oasis drummer Chris Sharrock and guitarist Gem Archer.
