Following on from his turn as film scorer on the 2013 Tom Cruise flick Oblivion, M83 project leader Anthony Gonzales has once again forayed into the world of cinema, unveiling his contribution to the soundtrack for the highly anticipated upcoming adaptation of sci-fi epic Divergent.
The minds behind the Divergent soundtrack are certainly keeping their fingers on the pulse of the current music landscape, having already revealed contributions from Kendrick Lamar and Tame Impala, and A$AP Rocky, who worked with French techno maestro Gesaffelstein for his addition.
Gonzales’ contribution bears all the hallmarks of classic M83, featuring ’80s-tinged vocal hooks swathed in effects, walls of synth noise towering over the listener, sudden swells of stadium-ready guitars, and a sublime saxophone lead that sends the whole track into the stratosphere.
