Rolling Stone has reported that Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has recorded a new song in the name of charity.
Skipping is the title of Vedder’s new soft acoustic lullaby and will feature on Every Mother Counts 2012, a compilation record that, according to The End 107.7, will raise money for an organisation that seeks to raise “an awareness and mobilisation campaign to reduce the maternal mortality rate on a global scale.”
Loudwire reveals that Skipping is a tribute from Vedder to his children, and in fact features the voice of his daughter Olivia at the beginning of the track.
When speaking to Rolling Stone Every Mother Counts founder Christy Turlington Burns said of Vedder’s efforts, “Eddie was amazing to accept this project while in the midst of so much. I spoke to him and exchanged several emails about his contribution. ‘Skipping’ is such a sweet song and I just love that his daughter Olivia has a little cameo at the start. He once wrote me saying that his girls would be proud one day that their dad contributed to such a meaningful project”.
The compilation Every Mother Counts 2012 also features previously released songs from Coldplay, Patti Smith, Alanis Morissette, Bono and the Edge, Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, the Dave Matthews Band, and Beck.
Unfortunately the CD will only be available from Starbucks during the month of May (1st-29th) in The United States and Canada.
