The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles song needs no introduction – the animated series’ theme is an iconic slice of pop culture that would be difficult to improve.
However, Mike Patton of Faith No More, Mr. Bungle et al has done exactly that, performing a rendition of the classic tune for the upcoming video game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. Listen below.
Much like its accompanying music, the forthcoming game – from publisher Dotemu – itself draws heavily from 80s nostalgia. With a retro arcade feel and side-scrolling gameplay, Shredder’s Revenge‘s pixel art graphics, characters, vehicles, weapons and backgrounds directly inspired by the original 1987 series. A release date is yet to be revealed.
Outside of singing classic theme songs, Patton has been keeping pretty busy. Last year saw him reunite with his Mr. Bungle bandmates to release their first studio album in over two decades, a re-recording of the band’s 1986, self-released demo tape The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo.
Other projects that Patton has revived of late also include Tomahawk, his avant-garde alt-rock supergroup with members of the Jesus Lizard, Helmet and the Melvins. The band’s new album Tonic Immobility is set to arrive this month.
Meanwhile, Faith No More recently rescheduled their long-delayed (thanks COVID) Australian tour dates. The band are now set to perform on Aussie stages in 2022 – see all the details here.
