Gwen Stefani has shared ‘Slow Clap’ today. The new single mixes in Stefani’s signature pop sensibilities with a throwback vibe to the No Doubt rock era. And we’re loving it.
The single is full of those sassy, self-assured lyrics that defined Gwen Stefani’s early music.
“I’ll be David, you Goliath / Set the rule and I’ll defy it,” she sings.
‘Slow Clap’ follows up ‘Let Me Reintroduce Myself’ which was released in December last year.
‘Slow Clap’ is presumably taken from Stefani’s forthcoming album. It’ll follow up 2016’s This Is What the Truth Feels Like (barring Christmas and anniversary releases).
On the new album, Gwen Stefani told Billboard she already has 20 songs to go on the record.
“But I still want to go back in and write some more once we get through Christmas,” she said in July last year.
Chatting about her throwing it back to her earlier days of music, Stefani said, “I just had this lightbulb moment.”
“I was like, ‘I really want to investigate where I started in music — the reggae and ska, when I first fell in love with music, when it defined who I was. I really want to do happy music, that’s where it all started.’
“Once I got into that mode, it was like a wildfire, because every person I went in with, we were just so inspired and excited to be doing that kind of music.”
Hyyyype.
Last year, Gwen joined Missy Elliott, Madonna, and Mark Ronson in teaming up with Dua Lipa for her Future Nostalgia remix album.
