As if we didn’t already have enough reason to love Lorde, the Kiwi pop phenom has gone and donated a massive chunk of money to help feed starving kids in her native New Zealand.
That’s right, as well as granting hope and strength to awkward social outsiders via her quirky alt-pop tunes, the 19-year-old legend-in-the-making also likes using her celeb status to help the less fortunate.
So she’s up and donated $20K (AUD $18K) to NZ’s Fuel The Need charity, which was set up to help kids in the city of Upper Hutt get access to lunches in school.
As NME reports, Lorde made her contribution after learning that the region’s local businesses had only donated a total of AUD$927 to the cause.
Fuel The Need organiser Manuel Dalton said: “To date, we’d raised $1400, so when Lorde’s payment came through, it was amazing.”
Using her real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor, Lorde wrote on the charity’s fundraising page, saying: “Good on you Manuel and Fuel The Need. I hope this helps a little bit. Lots of love from a former kid who is passionate about all kids having access to food at school.”
