M.I.A. and Diplo have had a patchy history to do the least and it seems it’s hit a rough spot once again.
He collaborated with her on her debut record Arular and her commercial breakthrough album Kala which featured ‘Paper Planes’ but they had a personal dispute that meant they didn’t work together again until 2016’s AIM.
M.I.A. has taken to social media now to dispute a story that Diplo told while he was speaking in Sydney with local DJ and producer Nina Las Vegas earlier this year.
The British artist has fired back in a lengthy Instagram post, letting anybody who doesn’t already know that she “forged” her own “path”.
She said that she originally bought a ticket to see Diplo at London club Fabric in 2003 when she first handed him a record. Diplo, however, made it sound like the meeting was pre-arranged.
She further goes on to accuse him of saying he produced 2007’s ‘Boyz’ even though he had little part and says that he cheated on her when they were dating.
“It’s important you don’t see me as a Iil thing Diplo discovered because I’m a brown woman , and this is the first story of a brown female musician who smashed it for the first time,” she concluded.
“That didn’t happen because I accidentally walked passed Diplo.”
Diplo was quick to respond to the post writing, “not sure where your grudge comes from Im thankful for you believing in me. I wouldn’t have taken music seriously if it wasn’t for you.”
