Mariah Carey Recalls Ellen Pressuring Her To Reveal Pregnancy In ‘Extremely Uncomfortable’ 2008 Interview

The Ellen Degenerous pile-on continues, with Christmas queen Mariah Carey now coming out with a story about her own negative experience with the daytime TV talk show mogul.

As part of a feature with Vulture mag, the pop diva revealed she felt “extremely uncomfortable” during a 2008 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres show, where Ellen pressured her into revealing she was pregnant by force-feeding her a glass of bubbly live on-air.

“People are saying you’re pregnant. There’s rumours,” Ellen said during the chat. “Let’s toast to you not being pregnant if you’re not pregnant.”

Mariah tried to laugh off the ambush, saying: “Don’t discuss that. This is peer pressure,” before taking a tiny sip of champagne to throw Ellen off the scent, but the host still declared, “You’re pregnant!”

As it turns out, Carey was legitimately pregnant at the time, and, according to the mag, suffered a miscarriage “soon after” the interview.

“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say,” Carey told the glossy.

“And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath. I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.”

She later added that she wished the show has been more considerate towards her.

“[There’s] an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented,” she said. “But what am I supposed to do? It’s like, [sings] ‘What are you going to do?’”

It comes following a slew of allegations from current and ex-staff against Degenerous, accusing her of creating a toxic and racist workplace environment.
