Melbourne Music Week 2015 Drops Opening Night Lineup Announcement & Flagship Venue Details

More secrets have been revealed about the impending 2015 instalment of Melbourne Music Week, including a new flagship venue and a handful of homegrown artists on the lineup announcement for Opening Night.

An all-Melbourne lineup will kick off proceedings at this year’s main venue – the Former Royal Women’s Hospital on Swanston Street – on Friday 13th November, including Gypsy & The Cat, The Harpoons and Dorsal Fins.

They round out the first group of local acts to be named on the 2015 lineup, joining previously-announced internationals The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Berlin sound-art genius Robert Henke of Monolake.

Chair of Marketing, Councillor Beverley Pinder-Mortimer, says the Former Royal Women’s Hospital will provide an exciting canvas for cutting-edge installations and programming at MMW 2015, 150 years after the building first opened.

“From Kubik, to Where?House at the Argus Building; The Residence dome in Birrurung Marr and MMW at QVM last year, the city really does become the stage for Melbourne Music Week,” she said.

The hospital space will also be transformed into MMW’s first carbon neutral flagship venue, with all carbon emissions to be measured and offset at the conclusion of the event.

The labyrinthine music event Swell has also been commissioned to reinvent 12 of the Former Royal Women’s Hospital’s forgotten rooms, with “secret one-off performances that redefine the way punters experience live music”.

The full programme for Melbourne Music Week 2015 is set to be revealed on Wednesday, 7th October.
