Melbourne Music Week Unveils Full 2014 Lineup

The organisers of Melbourne Music Week 2014 have unveiled their full lineup for the event’s fifth year, which kicks off this November. Joining what was already a packed lineup filled with local and international talent are Midnight Juggernauts, Remi, Safia, The Harpoons, Laura Jean, Optimo, and many more.

The full lineup is a wave of 250 local and international artists and bands, who’ll come to shore in the unique setting of Melbourne to entertain fans during 110 events spanning 40 locations. In addition to traditional venues, performances will be held in Melbourne’s laneways, trams, and even its elevators.

“The city becomes the stage for this 10-day event which highlights the breadth of music in Melbourne. Melbourne is one of the world’s great music cities and Melbourne Music Week absolutely highlights this,” said Chair of Council’s Marketing Melbourne committee, Councillor Beverley Pinder-Mortimer.

This year, the Queen Victoria Market will be transformed into Melbourne Music Week’s new flagship venue, hosting cutting-edge installations and live music, including a performance from local legends Midnight Juggernauts. The group will be presenting the Melbourne premiere of their new visual and musical installation, Aerials, as they celebrate their 10th anniversary on Saturday, 22nd November.

One of the event’s highlights in recent years, the Live Music Safari, will be going down on Thursday, 20th November, encompassing 14 venues, who’ll be opening their doors for a free night of local music. This year, the program will usher in two new locations, Melbourne’s famous Hi-Fi and the Kelvin Club.

Though there’ll be plenty of international action, with Tangerine Dream also announcing an exclusive interactive film event at ACMI, Chair of Council’s Arts and Culture Committee, Cr Rohan Leppert, says that this year, “over 75 percent of artists are from Victoria”. He says the event is more accessible than ever.

Readers can check below for the expanded lineup of Melbourne Music Week 2014 or head on over to the official MMW 2014 website for the full program. Tickets are available from Dash Tickets from 12pm AEST today and according to Cr Leppert, “90 per cent of ticketed events [this year] are under $50”.
