Music and other entertainment venues in Victoria have been permitted to reopen for live performances with limited capacities from today (Wednesday, 28th July).
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced yesterday that many of the snap lockdown restrictions introduced on Thursday, 15th July amid an outbreak of coronavirus in the state would be eased from today, with residents allowed to go further than a 5km radius from their homes.
Indoor and outdoor venues with fixed seating will be permitted to reopen with capacities of 100 and 300 people respectively, with a one person per four square metres density quotient in non-seated areas. Venues without fixed seating may reopen at the same respective capacities but must follow the one person per four square metres quotient.
Nightclubs will be able to reopen for seated service only (ie. no dancefloors), up to a maximum capacity of 100 with respect to the one person per four square metre density quotient.
Victorians will still not be permitted to visit each other’s homes, with outdoor gatherings limited to groups of 10. Wearing a face mask will still be mandatory in both outdoor and indoor settings other than one’s home.
The news comes as NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian today announced Greater Sydney would extend its lockdown by at least another four weeks, as the state reports 177 new cases of community-transmitted COVID-19 cases.
