The Victorian Government Are Hosting A Massive COVID-Safe Concert In Melbourne

The Victorian Government have today announced they’ll be hosting a massive 4000 person outdoor concert dubbed Play On Victoria as part of their vaccinated economy trial.

The event, which will take place at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Saturday, 30th October, is set to be one of the first major live music events in the state post-lockdown number six.

They’ve locked in King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Baker Boy, Amyl And The Sniffers, Grace Cummings and Vika and Linda Bull for the outdoor event which will be the first of its kind in the state.

The event is only open to those who are vaccinated and have their digital certificate on hand, with the government using it as a trial for “safe settings” on Victoria’s reopening roadmap. The concert will be held in line with the venue’s COVIDSafe plan, so attendees will be allocated across seating and picnic areas.

“We’re thrilled to be supporting our live music scene through this trial, which will see thousands of music lovers celebrate local artists in COVIDSafe settings. It’s a big step on the way to getting live music up and running again,” said Victorian creative industries minister Danny Pearson.

“Vaccination is our ticket out of this pandemic and it’s our only way to get back to enjoying the things we love, like our cultural and creative events.

“We’re making sure we have the best technology in place to get our great local events up and running again and make them run as smoothly as possible.”

Tickets will cost $29.90 + BF and will go on sale this Friday, 22nd October via Ticketek.

The Victorian government has come under fire recently from a range of Victorian venues, figures and musicians around the state for excluding smaller capacity, indoor venues from the roadmap.

The government recently announced the restrictions that will ease once the state hits 80% vaccination for eligible residents, with smaller capacity, indoor venues being notably capped at only one person per four square metres. There is currently no indication of when this restriction will change.

They’ve united under the Save Our Scene banner to call on the State Government to provide an actual roadmap to allow them to sustainably trade. They’re also calling for ongoing financial support, saying that the current roadmap does not take them into consideration.
