MGMT, the band that probably scored your adolescent years, have announced a new album titled Loss Of Life. They’ve dropped the album’s lead single, ‘Mother Nature’, to accompany the news.
Since emerging on the scene with Oracular Spectacular back in 2007, MGMT have gone down increasingly bizarre rabbit holes in pursuit of a sound that’s far away from their debut. Congratulations, their second record, was filled with tributes to Brian Eno and Dan Treacy of Television Personalities, while Little Dark Age, released five years ago, was filled with clanging, mechanical hooks.
MGMT: ‘Mother Nature’
The forthcoming Loss of Life seems to be another case of reinvention for the band. The single, ‘Mother Nature’, takes the psychedelic sound they’re known for, and makes it more kaleidoscopic; more fast-paced.
The two-piece have described ‘Mother Nature’ as a song that “outlines the archetypical MGMT mythology of one hero attempting to get the other hero to come on the journey that they ‘must’ go on. One part sounds like Oasis.”
Hmmm. Oasis. Can’t say I necessarily see it myself, but let’s let MGMT do them. Loss of Life is coming out on Friday, 23rd February.
