Melbourne pop-rock quintet Mid City have unveiled their latest single and shared tour plans both locally and overseas.
The infectious, hook-laden ‘Fake Friends Forever’ follows on from the band’s Die Waiting EP back in April, which included the blistering ‘No Surrender’. The new single is a burst of dancey guitar-pop, with an awfully anthemic chorus to boot.
“When did the wider world become so full of bluster and bullshit? More to the point, when did it become totally viable for the 99% of us who aren’t as-yet-undiagnosed sociopaths to behave like complete geese for our own self-aggrandisement – for our ‘Personal Brand’? Is this not bat shit crazy?” says the band’s Joel Griffith regarding the track’s lyrical inspiration.
“Anyone else seeing straight through the facade of false bravado and fake friends? These days it seems easier than ever to pretend your way to the top. I wonder what’s left when you get there.”
Coinciding with the track, the band have announced tour plans, with an East Coast run including a stop at BIGSOUND before they head to Europe for their first international dates.
