Mona Foma 2024 is happening in nipaluna/Hobart from Thursday, 15th to Sunday, 25th February and in Launceston from Thursday, 29th February to Sunday, 3rd March. The program includes performances on the Mona lawns by Queens of the Stone Age, Mogwai, Lonnie Holley, NEU!’s Michael Rother and more, a free concert in Launceston headlined by TISM, performances at Hobart’s Odeon by Courtney Barnett and Paul Kelly, and plenty more.
There are a range of free events, including a two-day Music in Exile showcase featuring Ajak Kwai, Jarabi Band, Mindy Meng Wang and Sui Zhen, and a series of sound system parties hosted by DJ Moses Iten. See the complete lineup below.
TISM – ‘Whatareya?’
Late-night event Faux-Mo is happening at the Granada Tavern, across the road from Mona, on Friday, 23rd, Saturday, 24th and Sunday, 25th February. The Friday lineup includes POOKIE, Soju Gang, m8riarchy, Grace Chia, MUM AND DAD, Jenn Ma & PJ, HDMI HDMI, Joey Gracia, L$F, The Two Cathies, Cassie Sullivan, Other Matter and Jessee Lee Johns.
Saturday’s lineup features Mama Snake, Chela, DENNI, Emeka Ogboh, Dameza, Joey Gracia, The Two Cathies, Cassie Sullivan, Other Matter, Jenn Ma & PJ.
Sunday’s event brings together Holy Fuck, Chaos In The CBD, Donna Hayze, East Africa Project, Soda Lite, Joey Gracia, The Two Cathies, Cassie Sullivan, Other Matter and Jessee Lee Johns.
Three Mona Sessions are happening on the museum’s lawn. The Friday session will feature Mogwai, Kutcha Edwards and the Australian Art Orchestra, Hindustani and Rajasthani folk collective The Shruti Sessions and Koi Kingdom.
Saturday’s Mona Session will present a group performance from Lonnie Holley, Moor Mother and Irreversible Entanglements, and sets from Holy Fuck, Isaac Et Nora and Eleanor Jawurlngali Triad. The Sunday Session centres on Michael Rother + Friends Play NEU!, as well as Japan’s Shonen Knife, US indie outfit Wednesday and locals Little Ugly Girls.
The Gorge is a free concert happening at Launceston’s Cataract Gorge Reserve on Saturday, 2nd March. Headliners TISM will be backed up by Cash Savage and The Last Drinks, Mulga Bore Hard Rock and FFLORA x Grace Chia.
