Morrissey Without A Label

Morrissey has been vocal once again, this time bemoaning the fact that he is currently without a record label and the fact that no publishers have sought his business.

In an interview with Pitchfork (via The Guardian), Morrissey said, “There’s not much I can do about it… You assume that anyone who wants you will come and get you.”

He added that labels are not interested in those musicians who “who have already made their mark.”

He continued, “Labels for the most part want to sign new discoveries so that that label alone is seen to be responsible for the rise of the artist… There are no risks taken with music any more. No social commentary songs, no individualism. This is because everyone is deemed instantly replaceable.”

Morrissey says he has finished recording his next solo album, which is proving a frustration to get out. He did concede, “most people who have been around for over 10 years are seldom relevant” as well as remark that he is a “staunch traditionalist” when it comes to the release of music, put off by the internet and refusing to consider releasing his material on his own online, as Radiohead did earlier this year.
