Mumford And Sons Off Hiatus, In Studio With Arctic Monkeys Producer

Folk rockers Mumford and Sons are reportedly back in the studio, marking the end of their previously announced hiatus. Reports say the band are working with producer James Ford whose other credits include albums with Arctic Monkeys, Jessie Ware and Haim.

“It’s very early days yet, but the sessions have been going well,” an unnamed source told NME. In September 2013 the band confirmed they would be going on an indefinite hiatus. “We just know we’re going to take a considerable amount of time off and just go back to hanging out and having no commitments or pressure or anything like that,” keyboardist Ben Lovett said at the time.

Mumford And Sons released their last album Babel in 2012, which followed their 2009 hit debut record Sigh No More. 2013 was a relentless tour year for the band which was interrupted when bass player Ted Dwane received emergency surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain. The band then returned to the road immediately following Dwane’s recovery.

As well as being an acclaimed producer, James Ford is a member of electronic outfit Simian Mobile Disco. In the production seat he has contributed to a whole host of noteworthy releases including KlaxonsMyths of the Near Future, Florence and the Machine‘s Ceremonials, Jessie Ware’s Tough Love, Haim’s Days Are Gone and many Arctic Monkeys records including 2013’s award-winning AM.

It is not known whether any of these new sessions in the studio are for a third Mumford And Sons album. Currently, frontman Marcus Mumford is contributing to The Lost Basement Tapes, a collection of songs written by Bob Dylan in the ’60s that have been finished by the likes of Mumford, Elvis Costello, My Morning Jacket‘s Jim James and T Bone Burnett. It’s due out in November.
