Ben Lovett of British folk-rockers Mumford & Sons is behind a new charity album called Metamorphoses, which will see some of the world’s most influential artists team up in support of The Global Poverty Project’s ‘Global Citizen’ campaign to help eradicate extreme poverty.
Metamorphoses, which is yet to announce any of its featured artists, is calling on members of the public to submit lyrics, poems, stories, reflections and thoughts which Lovett and his team will turn into a 12-track record.
Lovett announced Metamorphoses in a video which was screened at the 2015 Global Citizen Festival in New York earlier this month. “Musicians from all over the world are gonna help bring your words to life through music, and together we’ll make an album,” says Lovett in the clip, which can be viewed in full below.
In a statement, Lovett says, “Metamorphoses will transform your thoughts and feelings into music, giving a voice to the words that might well inspire change, give hope or provide healing for other citizens around the world.
“And you’d be surprised, often by being most honest and most personal, though it may not seem relevant to others, we find ourselves being the most relevant.”
The deadline to submit your material to Lovett’s Metamorphoses project is 1st January 2016. The album itself is due out in late 2016, with full credits to anyone whose submitted material is used in the final product. Material can be submitted via the Global Citizen website.
Aside from Lovett’s announcement, this year’s Global Citizen Festival also saw Beyoncé and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder team up to perform the Bob Marley classic Redemption Song, among a swag of other high-profile collaborations.
On the Mumford & Sons front, the band are set to tour Australia this November as part of their Gentlemen Of The Road Festival, bringing the likes of Jake Bugg, Future Islands and The Vaccines along for the ride.
