Bangin’ Ballarat boys Yacht Club DJs are well on their way to global domination, with the mash-up duo personally invited by UK nu folk giants Mumford & Sons to join them in Canada and the United States for a series of sold out Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers this August and September.
The Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers are a series of festival shows staged in small cities and locations around the world, curated by Mumford & Sons. Yacht Club DJs caught the attention of the British quartet when they played the stopover in Dungog, New South Wales last year and are the only Australian act to be invited to play the North American shows, joining the festival in Simcoe, Canada then heading to Troy, Guthrie and St. Augustine in the US.
Yacht Club co-conspirator Guy Chappell said, “At first, it was bit of an odd match to be asked by Mumford & Sons to do Gentleman of the Road in Dungog, but everyone was just up for a good time. It’s one of the best festivals we have ever played, so we were stoked to be asked to do the US Stopovers as well.”
His partner in crime, Gaz Harrison, is equally excited about taking their bottomless pit of face-melting tunes to the northern hemisphere. “We get to travel random locations and places you wouldn’t necessary go on tour. Last time, in Dungog, it ended with the Mumford and Edward Sharpe guys dancing on stage with us, so we’re hoping the US shows will be just as good.”
The Gentlemen of the Road Stopover shows kick off on the 23rd August, with the line-up also featuring Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, HAIM, The Walkmen, The Vaccines, Old Crow Medicine Show, Hey Rosetta! and Justin Townes Earle. And if you’re not yet familiar with the crazy awesome that is Yacht Club DJs, we’d recommend watching them interview themselves – who better to tell you about YCDJs than YCDJs?
