The National Indigenous Music Awards have revealed their 2019 nominees with 20 artists nominated across six categories.
Taking place in Darwin’s Ampitheatre, the National Indigenous Music Awards will be held on Saturday, 10th August this year. Some super special guests will be performing on the night too: Archie Roach, Jessica Mauboy, and Dan Sultan along with Electric Fields and Tasman Keith.
Wiradjuri woman, Mojo Juju is leading the finalist list with four nominations across the six categories following the release of her third studio album Native Tongue — which also picked up an ARIA Award for Australian Music Video Of The Year.
Rapper Tasman Keith has received three nominations. Other nominees in the running are: Baker Boy, Archie Roach, Electric Fields, Jessica Mauboy, Thelma Plum, Tia Gostelow, and Dan Sultan to name a few. Check out all of the award categories and the nominees down below.
National Indigenous Music Awards Reference Group Chair, Warren H. Williams says that Indigenous music has continued to rise to top in Australia, he says it’s, “pushing boundaries and finding its place at the forefront of art in our country.”
“The NIMAs follows that rise ready to recognise and amplify the voices of our musicians on their journey upwards.”
