New Sitcom Being Developed Under Working Title ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’

News has surfaced that a new American sitcom is being developed under the working title of Smells Like Teen Spirit, the very same name of Nirvana’s 1991 classic. As reported by Loudwire, the proposed sitcom would air in the States via CBS and is being worked on by Dave Goetsch, a writer and producer from The Big Bang Theory who has also lent his hand to Grounded for Life and 3rd Rock From the Sun.

The Hollywood Reporter describes Smells Like Teen Spirit, the sitcom, as a ‘multicamera comedy’ that focuses on “an 18-year-old budding entrepreneur who forgoes Harvard and instead opts to launch a multibillion-dollar Internet company from his garage with the assistance of his sister, best friend, and 1990’s indie-rock parents.”

As noted by Loudwire, Kurt Cobain struggled against the popularity of Smells Like Teen Spirit, which since its release over 20 years ago has been credited as the song that defined Generation X. One can only imagine that Cobain would look none too kindly on a commercial primetime sitcom trading off Nirvana’s work so blatantly. Here’s hoping the working title doesn’t stick.
