Nick Murphy confused fans when he chose to ditch the moniker Chet Faker in September, under which he’d been creating incredible music for half a decade.
Now, after months of speculation, Murphy has taken to Facebook to explain “why the fuck” he changed his name.
“A lot of you are probably wondering why the fuck I changed my name,” Murphy says. “Me too, sometimes.”
Murphy says that he “learnt and relearnt a lot about myself”, and “wanted to make a thing for everyone. So I’m not fighting preconceptions and everyone can start the evolution with me”.
He concludes by saying that a new name allows him to feel new and inspired, and that he hopes “that’s all that matters to you as well”.
Fans have responded with open arms to the newly revamped Nick Murphy (and his new music), with some even suggesting that they’d love him even if he called himself ‘Super Rainbow Matchstick’ or ‘Fuckface Von Clownstick’.
Murphy is working on a forthcoming album under his new actual name, which he recently said is “basically done”.
