Noel Gallagher Admits Live Scissors Player Was Purely To Wind Up Brother Liam

Noel Gallagher has revealed what we perhaps all knew deep down, that using someone to play the scissors live with his band had no other real purpose than to troll his brother Liam.

The gig took place on Later… With Jools Holland, where Noel debuted new song ‘She Taught Me How to Fly,’ featuring a woman snipping the air in front of a microphone.

Noel co-hosted the Radio X Evening Show with Gordon Smart and explained that what started off as adding a tambourine to his live show ended up in one of the best trolls either of the Gallagher brothers have pulled off to date.

He originally asked Charlotte Marionnau, who speaks on a spoken word passage in the middle of the new song song, whether she could play the tambourine.

“She did that thing, the French are quite arrogant and particularly French women [laughing] and she kind of went, ‘I will not play the tambourine,'” Noel said.

“And I was like, ‘well can you play the shakers?’ ‘I do not play the shakers.’ I was like ‘well, what, can you do something?’ And she said, ‘I play the scissors.’ And I was like … and I went, at that point I took my in ear monitor out and went, ‘did you say scissors?’. And she said, ‘yeah the scissors’.

“When she whipped out the scissors and started playing them, my bass player, I looked at him and said, ‘this is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen,’ And he went … and he was laughing, and he went ‘tch, tch, tch … do you know what that sound is? That’s the sound of Liam glassing himself’ and we were kind of … we laughed and then, after the night it was the TV, somebody quipped, ‘it’s almost like she’s snipping away at the last ribbons of Liam’s sanity.’ So, we laughed all the way home.”

For his part Liam responded in kind, bringing out someone to peel potatoes at his next gig (his nickname for Noel is ‘potato’ if you’d missed that in all the madness).
