Paul Kelly Releases New Song ‘Christmas’ Alongside Nostalgic Video

The festive season is officially here because today, Paul Kelly has gifted us with his new Christmas single!

‘Christmas’ is the first taste of Kelly’s forthcoming Christmas album (and collaboration bonanza) Paul Kelly’s Christmas Gravy Trainwhich brings together some of Australia’s finest artists around Kelly’s campfire for some holiday magic.

If ‘Christmas’ is anything to go by, we’re set for an album of stellar Aussie folk-rock, with the single evoking trademark Kelly rock n’ roll energy, featuring a typically down-to-earth video combining grainy shots from past summers with present-day footage shot on an iPhone around Kelly’s native St Kilda. Check it out below.

“It’s a fun rock ’n’ roll song with a nod to the 60s,” says Kelly in a statement.

“I’ve always been interested in Christmas songs and the variety of them,” he went on, speaking about the forthcoming album at large.

“There is a double-edged sword to Christmas music because every year it is everywhere, pumped to you in supermarkets and malls. There is a lot of schlock but on the other hand, there are so many great Christmas songs and so much to explore.

“I’ve chosen songs I love, which led me often to wander off the well-worn path, then chosen singers I thought best suited to them.”

Those artists include names such as Kasey Chambers, Kate Miller-Heidke, Marlon Williams, and, incredibly, a Waleed Aly cameo.

We’ve said it before, but the point still stands – Paul Kelly is sure to knock the likes of Buble and Mariah Carey off the ARIA Chrissy charts for 2021.
