Paul McCartney Says He’s Not Writing New Songs, Will Dip Into The Vault

There will be no more new songs written by Sir Paul McCartney for some time – the former Beatle has so many unfinished ones sitting around that he’s put a self-imposed ban on new material until the old ones get finished.

The 71-year-old songwriter told the Daily Star, “I’m resisting writing any more songs as I’ve got so many. I got everything off my chest with ‘New’, and next I need to go through my pile of demo ideas. It’ll be like cleaning out my attic – I know I should do it even though I don’t really want to.”

McCartney released his latest solo effort, the aptly titled New, earlier this month, but he’s already thinking about his next release, saying, “There are loads of songs I’ve started in the past couple of years that I need to finish off. Some are just sketchy ideas but I think there are a lot of strong ideas in my demos too, which I need to sit down and figure out how to finish.”

Macca recently released a behind-the-scenes video for single Queenie Eye, featuring a star-studded list of guest appearances from the likes of Johnny Depp, Kate Moss, Jude Law, Meryl Streep, Jeremy Irons, Gary Barlow and James Corden. The man himself is rumoured to be heading our way to play some shows later this year, his first Aussie shows in over 20 years.
