Pez Returns With New Single ‘Calling Out’ Featuring Something For Kate’s Paul Dempsey

After an eight year hiatus since his last release, 2009’s The Festival Song, Melbourne hip hop artist Pez has returned with brand new music.

His latest effort is a track titled Calling Out, and it features Something For Kate frontman Paul Dempsey.

He’s also shared an official music video for the new release in which he’s ditched the classic long hair for a slicker look.

Pez tells triple j that finding Dempsey for the vocals was birthed from a desire to find someone who sung with pain and emotion in their voice.

“My record label said if I wanted someone like that how about Paul Dempsey,” he says, adding that Dempsey turned out to be surprisingly into the idea.

“I said that’d be incredible but what’s the likelihood of that? They laughed and said they didn’t think he was into hip-hop. Anyway I sent him the song, he said he loved it and really connected with the lyrics and the next night he was there in the studio.”

Pez will release his new album Don’t Look Down, which he announced earlier this month, on Friday, 4th November. He’s also heading out on the road with Thundamentals and Mallrat this December.
