triple j Unearthed radio has released its list of most played artists for this year and its full of fresh faces who are probably going to rule the airwaves on the main station in 2017.
Alex Lahey was the most played artist of the year off the back of her massive debut EP B-Grade University. She also opened up Splendour In The Grass this year after winning the Unearthed competition.
The girls are representing hard in the top ten with soul queen Wallace, alt-muso Julia Jacklin, multi-instrumentalist Tash Sultana and electronic newcomer Nyxen all featuring. 60% of the entire list was made up by female-fronted acts.
Looking at the list, it’s pretty easy to tell that triple j Unearthed has done a good job this year at picking the next best thing.
LANKS came in fourth place and he’s had a huge year playing national tours and also releasing his Viet Rose EP. Fortunes. came in at number two and they have just recently been signed by Sydney label Future Classic.
All up, the station played 2,240 artists.
