Polish Club have announced their live return with a show at the freshly-minted Sydney Spiegeltent – a venue once used as a staple of Sydney Festival‘s Hyde Park Barracks hub, and now permanently based in the city’s Entertainment Quarter. Tickets for the show, which is set for Thursday May 23rd, are on sale now and available via the Sydney Spiegeltent website here.
It marks their first show in over eight months, following an appearance at last year’s Crafted Beer Festival, as well as their first headlining show since late 2022.Joining the band for the show will be Sesame Girl, Jet City Sports Club and Rat Public.
New material from the band’s as-yet-untitled fourth studio album is set to be premiered at the show, as well as the band’s new touring line-up – the duo have largely performed as either a trio or quartet since the release of their second album Iguana in 2019.
Polish Club – ‘Stop for a Minute’
The show will also be significant in that it will mark frontman David Novak’s first live appearance since undergoing successful open heart surgery earlier in the year. The singer and guitarist has spoken openly about his struggles with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy on social media, which lead him to a surgery known as septal myectomy back in January.
“I want to thank all of you who have been so supportive,” Novak wrote in the band’s latest newsletter. “It has been a long time coming and we are, quite frankly, frustrated it has taken so long. But we’re finally at the beginning of this new chapter, and we’ve got so much more to share with you this year.”
Polish Club’s most recent studio album was 2021’s Now We’re Cookin’. It was followed up in 2022 with the compilation Now We’re Cookin’ in Hell, which featured 10 songs that were recorded during the Now We’re Cookin’ sessions but ultimately left off the album. That same year, the band also released a cover of Ricky Martin‘s ‘The Cup of Life’ to celebrate that year’s FIFA World Cup.
