Sydney duo Polish Club have returned with their first single for the year, a breezy, carefree bop titled ‘Just Talking’ that arrives in perfect time for a sun-drenched summer ahead.
The song’s lyrics see singer and guitarist David Novak make an impassioned plea to everyone for patience and understanding, asking listeners to lean away from the impulse to resort to hyperbole and hostility and calm down a little in an increasingly turbulent time.
“Why the hell am I angry, what are we even doing? Let’s just relax and speak to each other like normal people,” Novak says.
“I’d be a hell of a lot less stressed and things would probably be better for all if everyone just calmed down and listened to each other, myself included.”
‘Just Talking’ follows up a pair of releases from Polish Club last year – their album Iguana along with their nye_2020_megamix.exe EP. In September, the duo appeared on triple j’s Like a Version to deliver their take on Doja Cat’s hit ‘Say So’.
To coincide with the single, the band will perform a handful of hometown shows at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville for next month, supported by Johnny Hunter. Check out those dates – and listen to ‘Just Talking’ – below.
