As they lead up to the release of their sophomore EP, Adelaide three-piece Cosmo Thundercat have allowed us a sneak peek under the hood of the record in the form of Warning Bell. Now the soothing soundscape has been attributed some beautiful yet unsettling visuals, and hoo boy you’re in for a journey.
Taking place in the aftermath of some horrible and destructive event, the video for Warning Bell is a jarring watch. Protagonists slipping over as they desperately try to help others, low visuality, dappled light breaching through the smoke and ashes. It’s enough to get your palms sweaty – like a frustrating dream where you keep tripping over your feet. All going down in one shot, mind you.
While this setting may seem a world away from the delicate soundscape of the song, dig a little deeper and you’ll learn the audio and video sync up seamlessly.
As explained by the band, Warning Bell is a tale “about knowing power and beauty, but knowing vulnerability and needing one another.” The captivating clip was brought to life by director, Aaron Schuppan, with the aid of some world class actors and dancers, including the head of Australian Dance Theatre, Thomas Fonua, the Lee Strasberg-trained Hanna Gabriella and Wastelander Panda‘s Lily Pearl.
As mentioned above, this is the first single from Cosmo Thundercat new EP which will pick up where their 2014 debut left off. The band will be taking their show the show on the road next month to show you just what it is they’ve been working on. See dates below.
