Queens Of The Stone Age fans have proven that – in spite of all the trolling, cyber bullying, revenge porn, clickbait and Kardashians that tend to dominate cyberspace – the internet can still be a force for the most wonderful good.
They’ve banded together to create a heart-swelling video tribute to Eagles of Death Metal, and all their fans who lost their lives during the Paris terror attacks.
In the clip, the QOTSA Facebook community – “a family of perfect strangers” – send a heartfelt message of love and support to Josh Homme, Jesse Hughes and their EODM bandmates, from all around the world.
“This family was brought together by the music of people that taught us to look out for one another…” the fans state in the video montage. “We’re so sorry for your loss, but most importantly, we love you too.”
Josh Homme has since shared the video on the QOTSA Facebook page, along with a heartfelt and emotional message of thanks.
“I think I’m one of the first in our group to see this,” he writes. “I find it difficult to put into words how this video makes me feel. I’m proud to be among you, part of you, one of you. Thank you for this kind & generous gift. It means the world to me. I thank you with everything I have. I am humbled by you. I am in awe of you. What you have done, together? I will never forget this gift of kindness. Thank you.”
Eagles Of Death Metal recently returned to Paris’s Bataclan Theatre, where their November 13th concert was cut short by terrorists who stormed the venue, killing 90 people including the band’s merch manager, Nick Alexander.
As well as returning to the scene of the tragedy to pay tribute to the victims, the band also joined U2 onstage for a performance of two songs – including their Zipper Down cut, I Love You All the Time, which they’ve also been asking bands around the world to cover to help raise money for the Paris victims.
Here in Australia, Melbourne rock den Cherry Bar has announced an EODM-themed charity night, with all proceeds to go towards the same cause.
