Radiohead are to perform their latest album The King Of Limbs in its entirety for a special BBC radio broadcast, marking the live debut of any songs from their new album, which came out in February.
According to a BBC press release, the band will play as part of the BBC music show, Live From The Basement. The performance will be the only Radiohead live appearance for the foreseeable future. The BBC might put this coup down to the fact that Live From The Basement is produced by long-time producer and friend of the Oxford band, Nigel Godrich. He tends to attract some of rock’s most illustrious names for the show, with Radiohead following in the footsteps of Sir Paul McCartney, REM, Air and U2.
Salim Mukaddam, VP Music Television at BBC Worldwide said, “It is a real honour to be working with Radiohead on this project. Radiohead are a band that rarely performs for television, but when they do, it’s a moment to savour. There is already huge anticipation for this performance and we’re delighted that they’ve decided to work with us at BBC Worldwide, confirming our position as market leaders in Music Television. As a fan I cannot wait to see these beautiful songs brought to life in this programme.”
The 55-minute performance of Radiohead – The King of Limbs: Live From The Basement will be broadcast to the world on July 1. In addition, the show is to be directed by Grant Gee, the man behind their acclaimed documentary, Meeting People Is Easy.
