Today’s Record Roundup features two of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of the past decade, with new album announcements from Bright Eyes‘ Conor Oberst, soon to be unleashing his latest solo LP, and Sun Kil Moon aka Mark Kozelek, formerly of Red House Painters.
Conor Oberst – Upside Down Mountain
Bright Eyes‘ Conor Oberst has announced the release of his new solo album, Upside Down Mountain. The record, which features vocal contributions from First Aid Kit, is slated for a 16th May release and follows the prolific singer-songwriter’s signing to Nonesuch Records.
The album was recorded in Nashville with Jonathan Wilson, who’s previously worked with singer-songwriter Father John Misty. Oberst will soon be touring Australia with his post-hardcore project, Desaparecidos, as part of Soundwave Festival 2014, which kicks off next week.

Sun Kil Moon – Benji
Spunk have announced the release of Sun Kil Moon‘s universally acclaimed sixth studio album for Friday, 14th March. Titled Benji, singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek‘s fifth album features contributions from Will Oldham and Owen Ashworth.
The album, which also features contributions from Sonic Youth‘s Steve Shelley, bears some of Kozelek’s most haunting, arresting, and purely autobiographical work to date, with topics spanning his love for his family, his interest in serial killers, and his obsession with mortality.
