Sun Kil Moon 2015 Australian Tour Announced

Mark Kozelek, aka Sun Kil Moon, has announced a run of dates along the Australian East Coast in March 2015. In what’s being billed as a “special Australian tour”, Kozelek will play for over two hours in theatre venues The City Recital Hall in Sydney and the Atheneum Theatre in Melbourne, and will also hit the Hi-Fi in Brisbane.

If you couldn’t tell from his track Australian Winter, Kozelek has a strong affinity with our country. This will be Kozelek’s fifth trip down under as Sun Kil Moon. The last was in 2012 behind that year’s Among The Leaves album.

The latest Sun Kil Moon album, Benji, has been gathering praise since its release earlier this year, accruing many a spot on respected end-of-year lists. Our own review of Benji noted that Kozelek’s “tenderness, arresting authenticity, and charm” were rewarding, despite the record’s focus on mortality and death.

Despite the praise, Kozelek recently told Spin he feels the album isn’t even close to his best work, reminding us that his former band Red House Painters did pretty well for themselves too. Let’s hope we’ll hear material both old and new in March. Full tour details below.
