Red Bull Music Academy’s Four Day Sydney Festival Lineup Expands

The Egyptian Lover and Jonti are the latest additions to Sydney’s 2016 Red Bull Music Academy Weekender, the two artists joining the lineup for the Stones Throw 20th Anniversary party at Manning Bar on Friday 9th September.

Joining label head Peanut Butter Wolf, as well as J Rocc, MNDSGN and Katalyst on the bill, the event will celebrate 20 years of the iconic LA-based label and home to legends like the late J Dilla and Madlib. Sure to be one of the many highlights of the weekender, that will see 40 artists descend on the city, it’s but one of the 11 shows that a ticket will give you access to across the four day event.

As for the new additions. Well you could hardly pick anyone better to join the fun.

Born out of the ’80s electro scenes in New York and Miami, The Egyptian Lover is without a doubt one of the most influential producers to come out of that period. Inspiring the Miami bass scene with his live 808 performances, and his high tempo tracks becoming break dance staples, there are few producers out there who can get a dancefloor moving like this guy.

While he can’t claim the same influence as The Egyptian Lover, Australia’s own Jonti still has quite the pedigree himself. Not only is he the only Aussie artist ever signed to Stones Throw, but he was also handpicked to collaborate with The Avalanches on their new album Wildflower as well as being left in charge of bringing their classic album Since I Left You to life as part of Vivid back in 2013.

A music fan/nerd of the highest order, and having been a fan of Stones Throw long before he ever dreamed of being signed by them, Jonti was the logical choice to put together the retrospective vinyl-only mix of choice Stones Throw tracks (below) to celebrate the upcoming anniversary.

Tickets for the Red Bull Music Academy Weekender Sydney 2016 are on sale now, with full details here, below.
