UPDATE 2:09pm 09/04/14: The scan of the Rollling Stone interview with Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer dated April 24th and cited in this article has been revealed as a fake perpetrated by Stadium Arcadium forum user RHCPtv5. The user uploaded the fake interview to the fan forum where it was picked up by several outlets, including Under The Gun Review and Take40.
Following comments by drummer Chad Smith in June of last year indicating that the band were set enter the studio towards the end of 2013, Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer has revealed to Rolling Stone that the band could potentially release new music this September.
“We’re probably looking at getting together in September and getting on a roll and starting to write songs for the next record. We always have little ideas percolating in jams and rehearsal warm-ups and soundchecks and gigs,” Smith told Billboard of album number eleven back in June.
Now Klinghoffer has offered fans an update on the progression of the follow-up to 2011’s I’m With You, which was the guitarist’s debut with the legendary California funk-rock group, saying, “We’ve got some songs written already, some of which will definitely be on the [new] album.”
“The amazing thing about [RHCP] is that we always keep evolving, but what we’ve been really keen on is taking our best elements and keep them rolling forwards. It’s looking like we’ll have something out around September time. I’m really looking forward to sharing new music with the world.”
The interview with Klinghoffer is featured in the latest issue of RS, a scan of which was shared by fan forum Stadium Arcadium. While the comments are good news for fans, it’s important to note that release dates for I’m With You and 2006’s Stadium Arcadium were pushed back several times.
The band made headlines back in February, after it was revealed that their performance alongside pop singer Bruno Mars at the recent NFL Super Bowl half time show was mimed, prompting the band to issue a statement in which they explained that they had “no choice” in the matter.
