Remi Announces ‘Divas & Demons’ National Tour, Shares New Single ‘Lose Sleep’

Melbourne hip-hop artist Remi has announced a national tour in support of his forthcoming second album Divas And Demons. Setting out on a run of headline shows across the country from mid-November, he’s also shared a new single from the album, titled Lose Sleep.

Having gone on to play sell out shows here in Australia and overseas following the success of his first album Raw x Infinity, Remi is setting out with support from fellow Melbourne MC Baro for shows in Ballarat, Darwin, Adelaide, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and more.

Lose Sleep (below) features London-via-Brisbane’s Jordan Rakei. A soulful song with strong percussive elements, it promises big moves to come from Divas And Demons when it drops next month.

Discussing the track, Remi explains how it was inspired by the huge reaction from fans to his music’s themes of race and hardship.

“Since our last record, a lot of young mixed race Aussie kids have come to me talking about how much they can relate to the racial struggle in our music,” he says.

“I don’t think that’s a good thing, but I’m proud that these kids feel a little less alone, because of some songs we didn’t think anyone would hear. It also became inspiration for me to continue opening up about my experience. Often you can feel like one crazy beige kid in a sea of ignorance shouting about equality. These kids helped change that for me.”

As for Rakei’s contribution, Remi also speaks about how the collaboration was very much steeped in a shared view of the social climate of the world right now.

“The most beautiful thing about a lot of musicians I know is how much the social climate effects them. Jordan Rakei is one of those musicians. Even though we were literally continents apart when he worked on this joint, with very little background on the song, Jordan was able too match the tone and message immediately,” he says.

“Partially because his voice sounds like liquid gold, but mostly because I know he gets it. It’s very apparent across his discography (if you haven’t heard it, get it) that he cares for our planet and the people in it. Thanks for being one of the good guys my brother.”

Lucky for Remi they haven’t been too hard pressed to find “good guys” and girls to join the show, with Divas And Demons featuring a huge list of local hip hop heavyweights as collaborators. Simon Mavin (Hiatus Kaiyote), Sampa Tembo (Sampa the Great), Jordan Rakei, Baro, Silent Jay, Tom Scott (Average Rap Band), Lorry (Hiatus Kaiyote), Nui Moon and Cazeaux O.S.L.O. (Man Made Mountain) all lend their skills to the album.

Divas And Demons is out Friday, 16th September. In the meantime have a listen to Lose Sleep here with full tour details below.
