Rick Astley – yes, Rick Astley – has delivered a heartfelt, stripped down rendition of ‘Better Now’ by Post Malone – yes, Post Malone.
The British crooner shared his take on the Beerbongs & Bentleys hit on his YouTube channel over the weekend.
“There are a lot of words in this song. It’s not my song, I don’t really know it properly,” Astley explains in the video. “But I love it, so I’m gonna give it a go. Here we go, let’s see what happens.”
The ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ singer and accidental meme king proceeds to turn the song into an impassioned acoustic banger, adding a big dose of country twang to the trappy, heavily produced original. Honestly? It slaps.
Plus, given that Ol’ Posty’s no stranger to pulling out the old six-string here and there – such as his live-streamed Nirvana set back in April – we have a feeling he’d be pretty partial to Rick’s rendition.
‘Better Now’ isn’t the only song Astley has covered in recent months. He’s also given his spin on ‘Everlong’ by Foo Fighters, Bill Withers‘ ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ along with Sia and David Guetta‘s ‘Titanium’ while quarantining at home.
