Rick Astley’s Cover Of ‘Uptown Funk’ Is Surprisingly On Point

We promise this isn’t a rickroll: Never Gonna Give You Up singer Rick Astley has indeed covered Mark Ronson‘s hit single Uptown Funk, and he’s done it at an ’80s-inspired festival, without Bruno Mars, but backed by an electronic disco ball.

Astley’s Uptown Funk cover (below) took place at the Let’s Rock London music festival over the weekend, and saw the 49-year-old and his band recreate the track with a disco karaoke vibe. Nonetheless, Astley’s vocals were on point and his band funked things up nicely.

Mid-way through his cover though, Astley can be seen asking the crowd in his best white-man soul voice, “Is you in the mood? Is you feelin’ funky?” Yes, Rick — we is.

The Splendour-bound Ronson will arrive in Australia in a few weeks, and has some star-studded festival sideshows lineup up. While it’s unlikely that Astley will make a surprise appearance at any of Ronson’s performances, you can win tickets and accommodation to Ronson’s Sydney and Melbourne sideshows right here.

Rick Astley’s latest studio album, Portrait, was released in 2005, and he toured Australia late last year. Enjoy his Uptown Funk cover in full, below. But first,
